Mechanical SPICE v2.1 is here!

On December 6, 2025, the latest version of Mechanical SPICE (v2.1) was officially released, bringing further clarity, consistency, and refinement to the model.

What’s new in Mechanical SPICE v2.1?

  • Official rebranding:
The model is now formally named Mechanical SPICE (formerly SPICE for Mechanical Engineering)
  • Minor fixes & consistency improvements:
Several small inconsistencies from the previous version have been resolved
  • Refined process purposes:
Both changes are due to better alignment with Automotive SPICE® 4.0.
    • MEE.1 now focuses on establishing a structured and analyzed set of mechanical requirements
    • MEE.2 emphasizes the analysis of architecture and design rather than simple evaluation
  • Enhanced terminology:
Clearer definitions for key terms such as System, Upper System, and Upper (Mechanical) System to better support hierarchical integration
  • In general, strong alignment with Automotive SPICE® 4.0, continuing to leverage its plug-in concept for mechatronic development environments

Mechanical SPICE remains the essential standard for organizations developing mechanical systems or components, defining the “WHAT” of process capability without prescribing a specific “HOW.”

Of course, Mechanical SPICE v2.1 is already fully integrated into our website and knowledge portal: www.spice4cars.com
